Porthmadog Golf Club was created at the turn of the last century by the genius course designer James Braid. The course is an interesting mix of heathland and classic links. The front nine is predominantly heathland and confronts the golfer with many testing holes; water comes into play on eight of them and you’ll do well to safely negotiate our own Amen Corner.
The back nine is pure seaside links with great panoramic views of Snowdonia s renowned scenery, most notably the 360˚ view from the 13th tee. It is a true test of links golf that requires good planning and execution of nearly every shot, especially in the wind. Each hole has its own memorable character. It is challenging, scenic and a must for golfers of all abilities.
Former Ryder Cup player and Captain, Brian Huggett, an honorary member of the Club, describes the course as a “hidden gem”.
